While here in New England we’ve been enjoying the most spectacular last few days of summer weather, let’s not forget what a wash it was for at least half of this summer almost past. Do I have to say “June” for you to remember that it rained for something like twenty days? And yet, truth be told, there ended up not being one wedding that we photographed all summer where we were totally washed out and unable to take at least a few pictures outside. Kerry and Jay’s wedding at the end of August was no exception.
Always fun for me to photograph the sister or brother of one of our earlier brides or grooms and while I wasn’t personally able to be there at the wedding of Kerry’s sister Tara a couple of years ago, I was very much involved in the designing and creating of their beautiful wedding album and in the process felt like I got to know the whole family.
And what a great family they are! The ceremony took place in Westport and the reception was at one of my very favorite locations The Stamford Yacht Club. Recently renovated, the club is the perfect blend of old world “nautical” charm and extraordinary views of the Long Island sound. Rain or shine, always a great place to work ( especially with the help of our good friend and most charming and efficient catering manager you’ll ever meet James Fedorchak), but then we always, of course, hope for at least that window without rain for those outdoors portraits.
When we arrived for Kerry and Jay’s reception on this otherwise gloomy and rainy August Saturday, we had just that little opening that we needed, but the light was disappearing as quickly as we could get out there. I’d have to say that one of my favorite photos of the day is when K&J first walk outside and she looks up and discovers that the rain has stopped and the skies had cleared. And thanks to our trusty new Canon 5D MII, we simply don’t need a lot of light to capture those twilight moments.
An amazing party with never an empty dance floor, a killer band, a Southern gentleman of a groom and a gorgeous “Weston” bride, I hope you’ll like the results as much as we do. Congrats to both Kerry and Jay and their families.
Happy Fall to all!!
